لوif أننيthat I حُسنُهُhis beauty أوor أنّهُthat he حَزَنيmy sorrow
لو أنني حُسنُهُ أو أنّهُ حَزَني
ماnot بِنتُI parted عنهُfrom him وعنِّيand from me قطُّever لمnot يبِنِhe parted
ما بِنتُ عنهُ وعنِّي قطُّ لم يبِنِ
Had I been his beauty, or he my sorrow,
If I were his beauty or if he were my sorrow
I would not have parted from him, nor would he ever have parted from me;
I would not have parted from him nor would he from me
لأنّهbecause he لمnot يزلhe ceased to be والحسنَtogether with beauty فيin قَرَنٍa shared tether
لأنّه لم يزل والحسنَ في قَرَنٍ
وأننيand that I لمnot أزَلْI ceased to be والحزنَtogether with sorrow فيin قَرَنِa shared tether
وأنني لم أزَلْ والحزنَ في قَرَنِ
For he has always been yoked to beauty,
For he has never ceased being with beauty
And I have always been yoked to sorrow.
And I have never ceased being with sorrow
