لاdo not تُنكريfind it strange ياO عزَّʿAzz إنif ذلَّis humbled الفَتىthe young man
لا تُنكري يا عزَّ إن ذلَّ الفَتى
ذوof الأصلnoble stock واسْتَعلىand rises high لئيمُbase المَحتدِlineage
ذو الأصل واسْتَعلى لئيمُ المَحتدِ
Do not find it strange, O ʿAzz, if a young man is humbled,
Do not deny, O Glory, that the noble youth
Though of noble stock, while one of base lineage rises high.
Of noble birth was abased by the vile upstart.
إنَّindeed البُزاةَthe falcons رؤوسُهُنَّtheir heads عواطلunadorned
إنَّ البُزاةَ رؤوسُهُنَّ عواطل
والتاجُand the crown معقودٌfastened برأسِupon the head of الهُدهدِthe hoopoe
والتاجُ معقودٌ برأسِ الهُدهدِ
For the falcons’ heads are unadorned,
Verily the buzzards, their heads are bold,
While a crown is fastened upon the hoopoe’s head.
Yet the crown is bound to the head of the hoopoe.
