Turn your ear from the censor’s words,
Turn your ear away from the reproacher's words,
and with goblets strike the firesteel of resolve.
and strike the flints of care with goblets.

Cooled by the north wind, it would not accept its vessel's head
wear any turban but an apple one—
unless dressed in a turban of apples.

And, poured out in its cup, it seems
its great age bringing tidings of al-Saffāḥ, the Blood-Shedder.
by its age to tell of al-Saffah.
