أصونُI guard هُدْبthe fringe ردائيmy cloak ليسَdoes not يجذبُهُhe tugs at it
أصونُ هُدْب ردائي ليسَ يجذبُهُ
إلاexcept فَتىًa young man يبذلُhe offers الإنصافَfairness إنif صافىhe befriends sincerely
إلا فَتىً يبذلُ الإنصافَ إن صافى
I guard the fringe of my cloak; no one tugs at it
I walk modestly, my cloak attracts
Except a young man who deals fairly when he befriends.
Only a youth who is fair and just
ولمand did not يخُنْbetray قطُّever إلفٌa close friend فيin مَوَدَّتهِhis affection
ولم يخُنْ قطُّ إلفٌ في مَوَدَّتهِ
إلاexcept that وجدتُI found منamong الألاّفِclose friends آلافاthousands
إلا وجدتُ من الألاّفِ آلافا
And never has a friend been false in his affection
One who has never betrayed affection
Without my finding thousands of companions.
Else, I find thousands of friends
