أَهْجو متاعي بألفِ بيتٍ
إذْsince رَدَّit left بَيْتيmy house بلاwithout متاعِpossessions
إذْ رَدَّ بَيْتي بلا متاعِ
I satirize my possessions in a thousand verses,
I lampoon my member in a thousand verses,
for they have left my house without a possession;
since it left my house without possessions.
وأَضيعand the most squandered المالِof wealth ماthat which تَلاشىvanished
وأَضيع المالِ ما تَلاشى
بالمهرِon the bridal dower والمهدِand the cradle والرَضاعِand nursing
بالمهرِ والمهدِ والرَضاعِ
and wealth is never more utterly squandered
And the most squandered wealth is what vanished
than on bride-price, cradle, and nursing.
on the bridal dower, the cradle, and nursing.
