أُنَوِّهُ لا لا تُنكروا شرفَ البَكري
I was honored by Bakr; then, indeed, of his eminence
I have been honored by Bakr, then I, owing to his prestige
I speak in praise. No, no—do not deny al-Bakri's honor.
I extol, no no do not deny the honor of Al-Bakri
إذاwhen صغتُI fashioned مدحاًpraise فيهabout him حَمْحَمnickered صاهلاًneighing
إذا صغتُ مدحاً فيه حَمْحَم صاهلاً
جواديَmy steed إعجاباًin admiration بهِof him ورَغاand bellowed بَكْريmy young camel
جواديَ إعجاباً بهِ ورَغا بَكْري
When I fashion praise of him, it nickers, neighing—
When I recite praise in which the ardents Sahel frolics
My steed, in admiration of him; and my young camel bellows.
My generosity an admiration of it and a virgin yearns
أظُنُّI think مداداُink سائلاًflowing منfrom يَراعِهِhis reed pen
أظُنُّ مداداُ سائلاً من يَراعِهِ

دمَ العُذْرَةِ المسفوحَ من لفظِهِ البِكِر
I think the ink flowing from his reed pen is
I think the ink overflows asking who observes it
The blood of virginity, spilled by his virgin utterance.
The blood of the maiden spilled from his eloquent virgin lips
