يومٌ دعانا إلى حيث الكؤوسِ به
ثلجٌsnow سقيطٌfalling وغيمٌand clouds غيرُnot مُنْجابdispersed
ثلجٌ سقيطٌ وغيمٌ غيرُ مُنْجاب
A day on which we were summoned to where the cups were,
A day invited us where goblets stood
by falling snow and clouds that had not cleared.
With fallen snow and clouds not raining yet
وأفرطَand grew excessive البردُthe cold حتىto the point that الشّمسُthe sun ماnot طلعتْrose
وأفرطَ البردُ حتى الشّمسُ ما طلعتْ
إلاّexcept مُزمّلةًwrapped up فيin فَرْوfur سِنجابِsquirrel
إلاّ مُزمّلةً في فَرْو سِنجابِ
And the cold grew so fierce that even the sun did not rise
The cold was so extreme, the sun rose not
except wrapped in squirrel fur.
