فالفضلُ في الانتسابِ عَبْديلي
Abu al-Fadl possessed what his byname signifies;
Abu al-Fadl embodied the perfection I yearned for-
so excellence, by lineage, is ʿAbdīlī.
So the merit in lineage belongs to my Abdiel.
أرىI acknowledge لهُdue to him منْof لزومِthe obligation of طاعتِهِobedience to him

عليَّupon me ماwhat لاnot يَراهُhe acknowledges it عَبْديmy slave ليto me
عليَّ ما لا يَراهُ عَبْدي لي
I acknowledge the obedience due to him—
I see in his adherence to obedience to me
a duty upon me that my slave does not acknowledge he owes me.
What my Abdiel does not see incumbent on me.
