أوالدتي بعُدتِ على التّداني
فياso, oh عجباًwonder منat الدّانيthe near one البعيدِthe distant one
فيا عجباً من الدّاني البعيدِ
O my mother, you have grown distant despite your nearness.
My children, you have gone far from me
How strange, then, is the one so near yet far!
How strange is the one who's gone far away
وكانَand was لناfor us دعاؤكyour prayer فيin صُعودٍascent
وكانَ لنا دعاؤك في صُعودٍ
فكيفَso how انحطَّdescended منfrom تحتِbeneath الصّعيدِthe earth
فكيفَ انحطَّ من تحتِ الصّعيدِ
And your prayer for us was ascending;
Your prayers used to lift us up
So how has it descended from beneath the earth?
