Sleep is forbidden to my eyelid, as is the sight of

my passion turning away from love of her dusky lips.

Tears like her cheek mingle with my cup,

And springs flow from eyes over my chest.

I swear by that rose, the eyes' deep blackness, and the lips' dusky hue,

And by the curve, the keen blades, and the waist:

For I remain faithful to the old pledge—and how lovely!

And who will grant me the rising of the Pleiades with the dawn?

She gleams, and my heart revels in her beauty,

And we spend the evening with her, in her bosom, while she is in mine.
