    Repeat your rejoicing; begin afresh and repeat it.

    For today is truly the feast day.

    A day on which smiling mouths appear,

    And on it the cheeks of graceful maidens turn rosy.

    And gladness has filled the expanse, and good fortune has

    Come to you, striding proudly in new striped robes.

    And merriment has pervaded the people, until you thought them

    All intoxicated with the daughter of the grape-cluster.

    The Guardian reunited them with their imam,

    After his recovery, as necklaces are strung.

    فَردُ الكَمال وَلاتَ حينَ مَزيد

    The lord, the exalted Pasha Ahmad,

    Peerless in perfection, with no room for more;

    غَيثُ الوَدود وَغَيظُ كُلّ حَسودٍ

    The pupil of Tunis’s eye and her pillar,

    Rain for the loving friend, and vexation to every envier;

    في لُطف تَخمين وَيُمن جُدودِ

    Who took her reins with manifest prudence,

    With subtle judgment and auspicious fortunes;

    وَقَريحَةٍ غَراء ذاتِ وَقودِ

    And strove to exalt her with determination

    And a brilliant intellect, supplied with fuel;

    And lulled her inhabitants to sleep in robes of safety,

    And established the seat of her well-known glory.

    فانظُر لَها وَاِستَغنِ عَن تَقليد

    Her monuments tell you of his deeds;

    So look at them, and dispense with hearsay.

    From a company who, through their noble deeds, surpassed

    The masters of magnanimity, bounty, and generosity.

    Speak of the vast sea and of them,

    And scatter every rare jewel upon listening ears.

    O Pasha, Marshal, and you through whom

    I assail the calamities of black nights:

    This is my thought’s creation; I have sent her

    On the day of joy, like a tender maiden.

    She hopes you will regard her with an eye of care,

    Through it my palm grows dewy and my branch puts forth leaves.

    May you ever remain radiant on the horizon of happiness,

    Lofty in radiance, under an auspicious rising star.
