لِخَيرِ الدينَ وَالدُنيا الهَناءُ

لِخَيرِ الدينَ وَالدُنيا الهَناءُ

يُصاحِبُهُ وَدامَ لَهُ البَقاءُ

يُصاحِبُهُ وَدامَ لَهُ البَقاءُ

May happiness be Khayr al-Din wa-l-Dunya's,

For the best of religion and life is glory,

attending him; may his life endure.

It accompanies him and may his permanence last,

بدَستٍ لِلوَزارَةِ قَد تَلَقّى

بدَستٍ لِلوَزارَةِ قَد تَلَقّى

عُلاهُ بِما يُحِبُّ وَما يَشاءُ

عُلاهُ بِما يُحِبُّ وَما يَشاءُ

With a seat in the ministry, he has attained

With a hand to the ministry he has received,

his exalted rank, with what he loves and wishes.

He rules it with what he loves and whatever he wants.

وَعَمَّ الناسَ بُشرى قَد تَراءَت

وَعَمَّ الناسَ بُشرى قَد تَراءَت

بأوجُههم وَما فيها خَفاءُ

بأوجُههم وَما فيها خَفاءُ

Glad tidings spread among the people, appearing

And people spread good news that appeared

upon their faces, with nothing hidden.

On their faces, nothing hidden,

تَضافَرَتِ الحَواضِرُ وَالبَوادي

تَضافَرَتِ الحَواضِرُ وَالبَوادي

وَأَربابُ السِياسَةِ وَالرعاءُ

وَأَربابُ السِياسَةِ وَالرعاءُ

The towns and the desert lands joined forces,

The cities and countryside rallied,

and the masters of statecraft and the shepherds.

And the statesmen and shepherds,

وَنادوا بِالدُعاءِ بِكُلِّ خَير

وَنادوا بِالدُعاءِ بِكُلِّ خَير

فَقيلَ لَهُ لَقَد قُبِلَ الدعاءُ

فَقيلَ لَهُ لَقَد قُبِلَ الدعاءُ

And they called out in prayer for every blessing,

And they prayed for all good,

so he was told: "Indeed, the prayer was accepted."

It was said to him the prayer was accepted.

إِذا الإِنسانُ أَخلَصَ في مَساعٍ

إِذا الإِنسانُ أَخلَصَ في مَساعٍ

تَوالى الخَيرُ واِمتلأ الوِعاءُ

تَوالى الخَيرُ واِمتلأ الوِعاءُ

When a person is sincere in his endeavors,

When a person is sincere in effort,

goodness follows in succession, and the vessel fills.

Good continues and the vessel fills.

وَشاهِديَ العيانُ وَما جَنَتهُ

وَشاهِديَ العيانُ وَما جَنَتهُ

أَنامِلُ مَعشَر طابَ اِجتِناءُ

أَنامِلُ مَعشَر طابَ اِجتِناءُ

And my witness is direct sight, and what was reaped

And eyewitnesses and what they gathered

by a company's fingertips—a harvest sweet to gather.

We are the group of excellent selection.

مَحاسِنُ تُنشطُ المُدّاحَ حَتّى

مَحاسِنُ تُنشطُ المُدّاحَ حَتّى

يُجيدوا وَالجَميعُ بِها سَواءُ

يُجيدوا وَالجَميعُ بِها سَواءُ

Merits rouse the praise-poets until

Virtues encourage the praiser so

they excel, and all share equally in them.

They excel and all are equal.

أَلَستَ بِها الأَحَقّ وَأَنتَ أَهلٌ

أَلَستَ بِها الأَحَقّ وَأَنتَ أَهلٌ

لأن يُعطى الجَميعُ بِكَ الرَجاءُ

لأن يُعطى الجَميعُ بِكَ الرَجاءُ

Are you not most deserving of it, and worthy

Are you not the most deserving while you are qualified

to be the one through whom all are granted hope?

For all to hope in you.

وَأَنتَ لَهُم وَكَم أَنَيتَ فيها

وَأَنتَ لَهُم وَكَم أَنَيتَ فيها

إِذا ما ضاقَ في خَطبٍ فَضاء

إِذا ما ضاقَ في خَطبٍ فَضاء

And you are there for them—how often you showed patience in it,

And you are for them, how often you were in it

whenever open space grew narrow in a calamity,

When the issue was dire in expanse.

بِهِمَّةِ صادِعٍ بِلِسانِ صِدقٍ

بِهِمَّةِ صادِعٍ بِلِسانِ صِدقٍ

تُزَيِّنُهُ البَلاغَةُ وَالمَضاءُ

تُزَيِّنُهُ البَلاغَةُ وَالمَضاءُ

with the resolve of one speaking out with a truthful tongue,

With the determination of one who speaks sincerely

whom eloquence and firmness adorn.

Adorned by eloquence and resolve.

وَأَنتَ مُباشِرٌ وَالآن نَرجو

وَأَنتَ مُباشِرٌ وَالآن نَرجو

بِعَزمِكَ ما يَزيدُ بِهِ الثَناءُ

بِعَزمِكَ ما يَزيدُ بِهِ الثَناءُ

And you are at work, and now we hope,

And you take charge, and now we hope

through your resolve, for what will increase praise.

With your determination what increases praise.

لَقَد جازاكَ في الأَولى وَحَفّاً

لَقَد جازاكَ في الأَولى وَحَفّاً

يُضاعَفُ حينَ تَنصُرُهُ الجَزاءُ

يُضاعَفُ حينَ تَنصُرُهُ الجَزاءُ

He has indeed rewarded you in the first instance, abundantly;

You deserved a double reward in the first,

the reward is doubled when you support him.

When support aids reward.

إِلى أَن نُبصِرَ الخَضرا اِستَقَرّت

إِلى أَن نُبصِرَ الخَضرا اِستَقَرّت

مِنَ المَسَرى وَطابَ بِها الثَواءُ

مِنَ المَسَرى وَطابَ بِها الثَواءُ

Until we see al-Khadra come to rest

Until we see the greenery settled

from her night journey, and dwelling there grow pleasant.

From delight and the places smell sweet,

أَيا مَولايَ هَذا العَبدُ وافى

أَيا مَولايَ هَذا العَبدُ وافى

يُهَنيِّ وَالسَرورُ لَهُ رِداءُ

يُهَنيِّ وَالسَرورُ لَهُ رِداءُ

O my lord, this servant has come,

My Master this devoted servant congratulates

offering congratulations, with joy as his cloak.

And happiness is his cloak.

يُقَرِّرُ مِن كَمالِكَ ما عَلِمنا

يُقَرِّرُ مِن كَمالِكَ ما عَلِمنا

وَيَسأَلُ أَن يَدومَ لَكَ البَقاءُ

وَيَسأَلُ أَن يَدومَ لَكَ البَقاءُ

He affirms what we have known of your perfection,

He affirms your perfection that we know

and asks that your life may endure,

And asks that your permanence lasts.

إِلى أَمثالِهِ ما دامَ تَبدو

إِلى أَمثالِهِ ما دامَ تَبدو

أَهِلَّتُهُ وَأَنتَ لَها السَناءُ

أَهِلَّتُهُ وَأَنتَ لَها السَناءُ

through further occasions like this, so long as there appear

As long as the like of it appears,

its crescent moons, and you are their radiance.

You deserve its praise.

يَنوبُ عَنِ المُقَصِّرِ فيكَ مثلي

يَنوبُ عَنِ المُقَصِّرِ فيكَ مثلي

وَمِثلُ عُلاكَ لَيسَ لَهُ كَفاءُ

وَمِثلُ عُلاكَ لَيسَ لَهُ كَفاءُ

He stands in for one like me, who falls short toward you;

One like me stands in for the negligent toward you,

and greatness like yours has no equal.

And the like of your status has no equal.

وَيُنشَرُ عِندَكَ التاريخُ قَصداً

وَيُنشَرُ عِندَكَ التاريخُ قَصداً

لِخَيرِ الدينِ وَالدُنيا الهَناءُ

لِخَيرِ الدينِ وَالدُنيا الهَناءُ

And before you the chronogram is deliberately set forth:

And history spreads with you intentionally

May happiness be Khayr al-Din wa-l-Dunya's.
