Glad tidings to me! Behold, I have attained what pleases me,

And reached what I hoped for; my eye has found joy.

And walked proudly in the robe of bliss, hopeful

Of what I long for, with joy as my companion.

And Time fulfilled a wish it had deferred

For an age, and settled all my debts for me,

With the coming of the realm's pride, the pupil of the worlds' eye,

The ornament of the age, the chief minister Khayr al-Din.

Striding proudly in gladness and the radiance of his brow.

That had yearned for him for years.

And showed him such honor as has become plain

To onlookers, and strengthened his authority.

For he is the son-in-law of the lord minister, his patron,

And the object of his delight and treasured affection,

And his council's trusted man, the sapling he has grown,

And his right hand and his sharpened sword.

An outstanding arrow from the quiver of his glory,

And a peerless pearl from his treasured strand.

A sword in debate as well as combat—and seldom

Are both joined together; the lizard is far from the fish.

    فاِنظُر لَهُ تَستَغنِ عَن تَبيينِ

    His appearance reveals the nobility of his lineage;

So look at him: you will need no explanation.

O my loftiest treasure and master of my lifeblood,

And you who adorn my neck with the favor that pleases me,

May you remain to receive congratulations and glad tidings, holding

Hopes in thrall, in a secure abode,

    In eminence joined to happiness,

With a good final outcome, sealed with 'Amen'.
