    It is the mighty tidings, and nothing avails

    save provisions—prepare them for an eternal abode.

    And this life is nothing but enjoyment

    and a loan, to be reclaimed by decree.

    How, then, can its mirage deceive us,

    when its end is a grave and a burial niche?

    Contemplate this tomb, for within it lies

    a royal scion, by inheritance from father and grandfather:

    Muhammad al-Amin, the Bey, who was indeed—

    as though his virtues had been mingled with honey—

    طَليقُ الكَفِّ ذو فَضلٍ وَمَجدِ

    radiant of face, ever smiling with his front teeth showing,

    openhanded, possessed of virtue and glory;

    حَليمٌ أَروَعٌ زَينٌ لِعِقد

    high-minded, benevolent, chaste, upright;

    forbearing, splendid, an ornament to a necklace.

    May God reward him with the best and bestow

    upon him still more, without limit.

    So, you who visit him, record the date and proclaim God's greatness:

    Muhammad al-Amin is in an eternal abode.
