وَرَدَ البَشيرُ بِما أَقَرَّ الأعيُنا

وَرَدَ البَشيرُ بِما أَقَرَّ الأعيُنا

وَشَفى النُفوسَ وَهَزَّ غاياتِ المُنى

وَشَفى النُفوسَ وَهَزَّ غاياتِ المُنى

The bearer of glad tidings arrived with news that gladdened the eyes,

The herald brought tidings that delighted the eyes

And healed souls and stirred the furthest reaches of hope.

And healed the souls and shook the heights of wishes

وَتَقَسَّمَ الناسُ المَسَرَّةَ بَينَهُم

وَتَقَسَّمَ الناسُ المَسَرَّةَ بَينَهُم

قِسماً فَكانَ أَجَلَّهُم حَظّاً أَنا

قِسماً فَكانَ أَجَلَّهُم حَظّاً أَنا

And the people divided the joy among themselves,

And people shared the joy amongst themselves

In portions—and I had the greatest share of them all.

With the most fortunate of them getting the greatest share

بِالتَهاني وَبالمَسَرَّةِ حَيّا

بِالتَهاني وَبالمَسَرَّةِ حَيّا

فَليُقِم في السُرورِ مادامَ حَيّا

فَليُقِم في السُرورِ مادامَ حَيّا

With congratulations and gladness he offered greetings;

With congratulations and felicitations he greeted

May he dwell in joy as long as he lives.

So let him revel in happiness for as long as he lives

أَطرَبَ النَفسَ حينَ وافى بَشيرٌ

أَطرَبَ النَفسَ حينَ وافى بَشيرٌ

بِغُلامٍ لَكُم زَكيّا سَريّا

بِغُلامٍ لَكُم زَكيّا سَريّا

A bearer of glad tidings delighted the soul when he arrived,

A herald gladdened the soul when he arrived

With news of a boy for you, pure and noble.

With a pure and secret son for you

في سَماءِ عُلاكُمُ لاحَ بَدراً

في سَماءِ عُلاكُمُ لاحَ بَدراً

مُشرِقاً نَيِّراً سَنيِّاً مُضيّا

مُشرِقاً نَيِّراً سَنيِّاً مُضيّا

In the heaven of your eminence he appeared as a full moon,

In the sky of your grandeur shone a full moon

Radiant, luminous, resplendent, shining.

Radiant, luminous, blessed and guided

مُصطَفى مُرتَجىً يَعيشُ مَصوناً

مُصطَفى مُرتَجىً يَعيشُ مَصوناً

سَيِّداً أَورَعاً شَريفاً رَضيّا

سَيِّداً أَورَعاً شَريفاً رَضيّا

Mustafa, the hoped-for one—may he live protected,

Mustafa, hoped for, living protected

A lord, most devout, noble and well-pleasing.

A lord, most pious, noble and content

ليُرى سابِقاً لشأوِ أَبيهِ

ليُرى سابِقاً لشأوِ أَبيهِ

بالِغاً في العُلى مَكاناً قَصيّا

بالِغاً في العُلى مَكاناً قَصيّا

May he be seen surpassing his father's reach,

To be seen preceding in rank of his father

Attaining a far-distant station in the heights of glory.

Reaching the heights, of high position

صانَهُ اللَهُ مِن هِلالٍ تَبَدّى

صانَهُ اللَهُ مِن هِلالٍ تَبَدّى

مِثلَ عيدٍ لَنا تَبَدّى جَليّا

مِثلَ عيدٍ لَنا تَبَدّى جَليّا

May God preserve him, a crescent newly appeared,

May God protect him from a crescent that appeared

Like a feast day for us, he appeared clearly.

Like a feast for us, shining and bare

وَسُرورٌ عَمّ الأَحِبَّةَ حَتّى

وَسُرورٌ عَمّ الأَحِبَّةَ حَتّى

بَهَرَ العَينَ مِنهُ نوراً سَنيّا

بَهَرَ العَينَ مِنهُ نوراً سَنيّا

And joy embraced all the loved ones, until

And a joy pervaded all the loved ones

It dazzled the eye with its resplendent light.

Dazzling the eyes with its brilliant light

فَأَخَذنا مِنهُ بِأَوفَرِ حَظٍّ

فَأَخَذنا مِنهُ بِأَوفَرِ حَظٍّ

شَرَحَ الصَدرَ وَالأَعادي بُكيّا

شَرَحَ الصَدرَ وَالأَعادي بُكيّا

So we took from it the most abundant share;

We took from it in greatest share

It cheered the breast, while the enemies wept.

Expanding the chest, though enemies weep

دُمتُمُ في العُلى شُموسَ نَهارٍ

دُمتُمُ في العُلى شُموسَ نَهارٍ

تَلبَسُ الأَمنَ بُكرَةً وَعَشيّا

تَلبَسُ الأَمنَ بُكرَةً وَعَشيّا

May you remain in glory's heights, suns of the day,

May you remain as suns of daytime

Clothed in safety, morning and evening.
