إِلَيكَ رَسولَ اللَهِ وَجَّهتُ مَقصِدي

إِلَيكَ رَسولَ اللَهِ وَجَّهتُ مَقصِدي

وَأَنتَ وَإِن شَطَّ المَزارُ بِمَشهَدي

وَأَنتَ وَإِن شَطَّ المَزارُ بِمَشهَدي

To you, O Messenger of God, I have directed my aim.

To you, O Messenger of Allah, I have directed my purpose,

And you, though the place of visitation is distant, are before my eyes.

Though the journey to your tomb be far from my destination.

أَيُمَثِّلُكَ التذكارُ في العَينِ وَالحَشا

أَيُمَثِّلُكَ التذكارُ في العَينِ وَالحَشا

وَإِن رُمتَ مَدحاً أَصبَحَ الدَهرُ مُنشِدي

وَإِن رُمتَ مَدحاً أَصبَحَ الدَهرُ مُنشِدي

Does remembrance make you present to the eye and the heart?

Does remembrance represent you before my eyes and thoughts?

And if you seek praise, time itself becomes my reciter.

And if I extolled you with praise, time itself became my reciter.

أَلَم يَنزِلِ الذكرُ الحَكيمُ بِمَدحِكُم

أَلَم يَنزِلِ الذكرُ الحَكيمُ بِمَدحِكُم

فَماذا هيَ يملي لِساني أَو يَدي

فَماذا هيَ يملي لِساني أَو يَدي

Did not the wise Reminder descend in your praise?

Did not the Wise Remembrance (the Quran) descend with your praise?

What is it, then, that my tongue or my hand can dictate?

What then can my tongue dictate or my hand write?

أَلَم تَلهَفِ الأَكوانُ بالشكرِ وَالثَنا

أَلَم تَلهَفِ الأَكوانُ بالشكرِ وَالثَنا

أَما في أَلَم نَشرَح بَلاغٌ لِمُهتَدي

أَما في أَلَم نَشرَح بَلاغٌ لِمُهتَدي

Did not all creation sigh with gratitude and praise?

Have not the heavens been keen to give thanks and praise?

Is there not in “Have We not expanded” a message for one seeking guidance?

Is not the distress of one who seeks guidance relieved through eloquence?

وَبُشراكَ يا خَيرَ الأَنامِ بِكَوثَرٍ

وَبُشراكَ يا خَيرَ الأَنامِ بِكَوثَرٍ

وَحَوضٍ بِرَوضاتِ الجِنانِ وَمَورِدي

وَحَوضٍ بِرَوضاتِ الجِنانِ وَمَورِدي

And glad tidings to you, O best of mankind, of Kawthar,

And good tidings to you, O Best of Creation, of abundant grace,

And a pool in the gardens of Paradise, and my place to drink.

And a Fount of the gardens of Paradise, my place of drink.

أَلَم يأتِ في أَنَّكَ مُرسَلٌ

أَلَم يأتِ في أَنَّكَ مُرسَلٌ

مِنَ الحَقِّ بِالحَق الجَليِّ مُعَهَّد

مِنَ الحَقِّ بِالحَق الجَليِّ مُعَهَّد

Has it not been proclaimed that you are a messenger,

Has it not come that you are a Messenger

From the Truth, commissioned with the manifest truth?

From the Truth, with the manifest Truth, made a covenant?

وَآياتِ حَقِّ مُحكَمات كَثيرَةٍ

وَآياتِ حَقِّ مُحكَمات كَثيرَةٍ

أَحَلَّتكَ في طَودٍ مِنَ العِزِّ أَقوَدِ

أَحَلَّتكَ في طَودٍ مِنَ العِزِّ أَقوَدِ

And many firmly established verses of truth

And many verses of firm Truth

Have set you upon a soaring mountain of glory.

That give you a lofty, protected place of honor.

أَلا يا رَسولَ اللَهِ يا خَيرَ مَن مَشى

أَلا يا رَسولَ اللَهِ يا خَيرَ مَن مَشى

وَما حَملَت وَجَناءُ في ظَهرِ فِدفِدِ

وَما حَملَت وَجَناءُ في ظَهرِ فِدفِدِ

Ah, O Messenger of God, O best of all who have walked,

O Messenger of Allah! O Best of those who walked

And of all whom a sturdy she-camel has borne across an open plain,

The earth, bearing burdens on your back.

وَأَوفى جَميعَ الخَلقِ عَهداً وَذِمَّةً

وَأَوفى جَميعَ الخَلقِ عَهداً وَذِمَّةً

وَأَكرَمَ مَن يُدعى لِتَدريجِ مَكمِدِ

وَأَكرَمَ مَن يُدعى لِتَدريجِ مَكمِدِ

And most faithful of all creation in pledge and covenant,

And most fulfilling of promises and treaties amongst mankind,

And the noblest one called upon to soothe the grief-stricken.

And most gracious to the one called to a gradual ascent.

بِحَقِّ الَّذي أَعطاكَ ما أَنتَ أَهلُهُ

بِحَقِّ الَّذي أَعطاكَ ما أَنتَ أَهلُهُ

وَخَصَّكَ بِالذِكرِ الحَكيمِ المُمَجَّدِ

وَخَصَّكَ بِالذِكرِ الحَكيمِ المُمَجَّدِ

By the right of Him who gave you what you are worthy of,

By the right of Him who gave you what you rightly deserve,

And singled you out with the wise, glorified Reminder,

And singled you out with the Wise Remembrance, glorified,

تَوَسَّل لَهُ حَتّى يُفَرّجَ كُربَتي

تَوَسَّل لَهُ حَتّى يُفَرّجَ كُربَتي

وَيُسرعَ إِسعافيَ وَيأخُذُ باليَد

وَيُسرعَ إِسعافيَ وَيأخُذُ باليَد

Plead with Him, so that He may relieve my distress,

Intercede for Him until He relieves my hardship,

And hasten my relief and take me by the hand.

And hastens my aid and takes me by the hand.

فَلي ذِمَّةٌ إِذ كُنتُ أَدعى مُحَمَّداً

فَلي ذِمَّةٌ إِذ كُنتُ أَدعى مُحَمَّداً

وَإِن لَم أَكُن في حالَتي بِمُحَمَّدِ

وَإِن لَم أَكُن في حالَتي بِمُحَمَّدِ

For I have a claim to protection, since I am named Muhammad,

For I have a pact, when I call upon Muhammad,

Though in my condition I am not praiseworthy.

Even if, in my state, I am not with Muhammad.

وَحَسبي صَلاةً يَملأُ الأُفقَ نورُها

وَحَسبي صَلاةً يَملأُ الأُفقَ نورُها

وَتَسليمِ ذي وِدٍّ يَروحُ وَيَغتَدي

وَتَسليمِ ذي وِدٍّ يَروحُ وَيَغتَدي

And enough for me is a blessing whose light fills the horizon,

And suffice for me, a prayer whose light fills the horizon,

And the salutation of a loving soul, going forth at evening and morning,

And greetings of affection, soothing and gently flowing,

عَلَيكَ عَلى قَدرِ المَقامِ الَّذي لَهُ

عَلَيكَ عَلى قَدرِ المَقامِ الَّذي لَهُ

تَضاءَلَتِ الأَكوانُ مِن عَرفِها النَدى

تَضاءَلَتِ الأَكوانُ مِن عَرفِها النَدى

Upon you, in keeping with the station before which

Upon you, in proportion to the rank rightly yours,

All worlds, with their fragrant dew, have grown small,

Before which all creation is humbled, from its recognized loftiness.

وَآلِكَ الأَصحابِ مَعَ تابِعيهِم

وَآلِكَ الأَصحابِ مَعَ تابِعيهِم

وَمَن بِحِما عَلياكِ مُستَمسِكُ اليَدِ

وَمَن بِحِما عَلياكِ مُستَمسِكُ اليَدِ

And upon your family and the Companions, along with their followers,

And upon your Companions, and those who followed them,

And whoever holds fast with his hand to the sanctuary of your exalted rank.

And those who hold fast to the handhold of your lineage.
