هَلis there? فيin ادِّكارِremembering الحَبيبthe beloved مِنany حَرَجِblame
أَمor هَلis there? لِهَمِّfor the sorrow الفُؤادِof the heart مِنany فَرَجِrelief
Is there any blame in remembering the beloved?
Is there shame in remembering the beloved
Or is there any relief for the heart's sorrow?
Or is there relief for the worries of my heart
أَمor كَيفَhow أَنسىI forget مَسِيرناour journey حُرُماًas consecrated pilgrims

Or how can I forget our journey as consecrated pilgrims,
How can I forget our walk together veiled
the day we camped by the palms [of] Amaj,
The day we strolled by the date palms leaning
يَومَthe day يَقُولُsays الرَسُولُthe messenger قَدalready أَذِنَتshe gave permission
فَأَتِso come عَلىwith غَيرno رِقبَةٍfear فَلِجِthen enter
the day the messenger said, “She has given permission—
The day when the messenger says "She has given permission
so come without fear, then enter.”
So come without waiting another moment"

I came rushing toward their tents,
I stride yearning towards their encampment
guided to her by her fragrant scent.
Drawn by its perfume through the meadow
