Where is what you said, “May I die before you”—where?
Where are the words you once said to me, where are they now?
Where is the fulfillment of what you pledged to us?
Where is the truth of the promises made between us?
فَلَقَدfor indeed خِفتُI feared مِنكِfrom you أَنthat تَصرِميyou sever الحَبthe cord (first part)

For I have feared that you would sever the
For I feared you would turn away from love,
cord, and add separation to the severing.
And break apart what was once joined between us.

What do you say of a youth mad with love, when he fell
What can be said of a man in love, consumed with passion,
in love with one beyond reach, through folly and deceit?
For one who cannot be swayed by ignorance or disdain?

لا تَحِيفي وَلا يَحِيفُ عَلَينا
So appoint a just arbiter between us and you;
Let there be justice between us, do not twist the truth,
Do not be unjust, nor let him wrong us.
Nor allow it to be twisted regarding us.

And know that judgment rests on witnesses
Know that in judgment there are witnesses,
or an oath; so bring our two witnesses.
Or an oath - so bring forth our witnesses.

you would have no scruples about shedding my blood—God
I would not be ashamed before God of spilling my blood,

Even if I was present at the battle of Hunayn.
