حب العلاقة لا حباً عن الخبَر
I loved her beyond what men imagined of us,
I loved her more than men thought of us
With a love of deep attachment, not a love born of hearsay.
A love of intimacy, not a love from news

Until, when I said, “This is death,” it overtook me—
Until I said, this death has found me
Steadfast of heart, resolute in spirit before fate.
Paradise was affirmed, my heart was tied to fate

Her back sways within her mantle as she moves,
In her saddle a body sways when she gallops
Mirroring the sway of a verdant bān-tree branch.
Telling of a bending branch of green oleander

Oh how excellent is the water drawn from you
Arak juice, unmixed with cold, chilling water.
The water of Al-Arak, devoid of cool waists
