I am a man who does not pardon an opponent’s stumble
I am a man who does not expose my opponent's mistake
before the emir, when my opponent falters.

ينيرlights up وجهيmy face اذاwhen جدgrew earnest الخصامُthe dispute بناbetween us
ينير وجهي اذا جد الخصامُ بنا
ووجهُand the face خصميmy opponent تراهyou see it الدهرalways ملتَمَعاdrained of color
ووجهُ خصمي تراه الدهر ملتَمَعا
My face lights up when the dispute between us grows earnest,
My face brightens when the dispute intensifies between us
while my opponent’s face—you see it ever drained of color.
