Greet the dwellings between Ḥamma and al-Liwā,
The houses' district between red sands and twisted meadows
If you are preoccupied with them, stricken with love.
If you are still preoccupied with them, O foremost one
ياO برقstony tract حمةḤamma ماhow فعلتhave you fared علىdespite البلىdecay
لاnever زلتmay you cease يصحبكaccompanies you الغمامُthe clouds سديداunerringly
O stony tract of Ḥamma, how have you fared despite decay?
O lightning of sands, what have you done to the ruins?
May the clouds never cease to accompany you unerringly.
The clouds still accompany you, pouring down
فلئنfor if indeed بكيتI weep لأبكينI shall surely weep صبابةardent longing
ولئنand if indeed صبرتُI endure لأصبرنَّI shall surely endure جليداsteadfastly
For if I weep, I shall surely weep from ardent longing;
So if you cried, I would cry torrentially
And if I endure, I shall surely endure steadfastly.
And if I was patient, I would be icy calm
