مثنيتُ بأشجَعِ الثِّقَلينِ قلباً
إذاwhen ماemphatic particle طالَhe reached far ليسis not كماas يطولُhe reaches far
إذا ما طالَ ليس كما يطولُ
I was beset by the bravest-hearted of humans and jinn,
My heart is paired with the most steadfast of burdens
When he reaches far, none reaches as he does.
Though time may seem long, it is not as it seems
إذاwhen ماemphatic particle الرَّأيُjudgment قَصَّرَfell short عنfor أناسٍsome people
إذا ما الرَّأيُ قَصَّرَ عن أناسٍ
فَرأيُthen the judgment الأَعورِof the one-eyed man الباغيthe rebellious one يطولُreaches far
فَرأيُ الأَعورِ الباغي يطولُ
When judgment falls short for some people,
When reason falls short of comprehending people
Then the one-eyed rebel's judgment reaches far.
The oppressor's blind perception seems long
لَهhe has فيin كلِّevery ذيone characterized by بّدَدٍseparation (uncertain reading) رقيبٌa watcher
لَه في كلِّ ذي بّدَدٍ رقيبٌ
يشاهدهُwatches him ويعلَمُand knows ماwhat يقولُhe says
يشاهدهُ ويعلَمُ ما يقولُ
He has a watcher over everyone who stands apart,
For every scattered thing, he has a watcher
Who watches him and knows what he says.
Who sees it and knows what it says
فلَيسَso he is not بمُغفِلٍneglectful of أمراًa matter عناداًout of obstinacy
فلَيسَ بمُغفِلٍ أمراً عناداً
إذاwhen ماemphatic particle الأمرthe matter ضيَّعهُhe let it go to waste الغفولُthe heedless man
إذا ما الأمر ضيَّعهُ الغفولُ
So he does not neglect a matter out of obstinacy,
He is not neglectful of matters out of stubbornness
When the heedless man lets the matter go to waste.
When an affair is wasted by negligence
