ليسَdoes not يُزريdetract السّوادُblackness بالرّجلِfrom the man الشَّهمِnoble
ليسَ يُزري السّوادُ بالرّجلِ الشَّهمِ
ولاnor بالفتىfrom the young man الأديبِcultured الأريبِdiscerning
ولا بالفتى الأديبِ الأريبِ
Blackness does not detract from a noble man,
Blackness does not diminish the valorous man,
nor from a cultured, discerning young man.
Nor the learned and adept youth.
إنif يكنbe للسوادِfor blackness منكَof you نصيبُa share
إن يكن للسوادِ منكَ نصيبُ
فَبياضthen the whiteness الأخلاقِof character منكَfrom you نصيبيmy share
فَبياض الأخلاقِ منكَ نصيبي
If blackness has a share of you,
If blackness has a share of you,
then the whiteness of your character is my share.
Then the whiteness of character is my share of you.
