    What do you hope to gain from reviling and belittling me?

    What do you hope to gain from the bearer of firewood?

    Radiant, her brow's white blaze streaming in glory,

    She was the wife of an elder of illustrious lineage.

    Indeed, we and the Messenger of God were brought forth by

    An elder with a mighty skull and abundant wealth.

    Ah, may God curse a people whose chief you are,

    In a patch of skin between the base of the penis-sheath and the tail.

    Is it with smiths that you face me, vying with me in pride,

    And claim glory? You have gone too far in lying.

    And with three men—you are their fourth—

    You threaten me, who stand at the heart of the Arabs' rootstock,

    تَشفي دِماؤُهُمُ لِلخَبلِ وَالكَلَبِ

    In a clan of Quraysh whose members are the tribe's pillars;

    Their blood brings healing for madness and rabies.

    وَكانَ مالِكُهُ جَدّي أَبو لَهَبِ

    As for your father, he is a slave—you do not deny it;

    And his owner was my grandfather, Abu Lahab.

    لَسنا كَقَومِكَ مِن مَرخٍ وَمِن غَرَبِ

    Our staves are of nabʿ-wood, and glory is our nature;

    We are not made, like your people, of markh and willow.
