Turn aside, you two, to Su'da's dwelling site, so that we may question it.
Turn aside at Su'ad's abode that we may question her,
Turn aside, you two: you are neither astray nor far away.
Turn aside! Neither of you is to blame nor too remote.

Indeed, when my people settle in one of their dwelling places—
When my family left their dwellings,
the valley of al-Aqiq—and Barad becomes her home,
At Buṭn al-'Aqīq, and their abode grew cold,
تَجمَعُناbrings us together نِيَّةٌa destination لاnot الخِلُّthe beloved واصِلَةٌmaintaining ties

a shared destination brings us together; the beloved keeps no ties—
It was a firm intention, not kinship, that gathered us together,
Su'da—nor is our home near theirs.
Neither Su'ad nor our dwelling barred them access.
