O friend of the convoy that was sent off
held back for the evening of departure,
Imprisoned for the evening gathering

O keeper of kinship ties that were severed,
O kinsman whose kinship was severed
and had suffered estrangement over time.
And was struck by estrangement in time

فَبَرِئتَ مِن كَذِبٍ وَمِن غَدرِ
I have found my friend false after you,
I found the confidant after you to be a liar
so you stood free of falsehood and treachery.
So you are absolved of lies and betrayal

White forearmed ones from the tribe of Fihri

Crying for their eminent master but not
for an old she-camel or a young male camel do you weep.
Crying for any molar or canine tooth

They weep for him and say: Our lord,
They cry for him and say our master
the caliphate has been lost for all time!
The caliphate was lost at the end of time

From the estrangement of brothers, if only you knew
