    I never thought that authority would pass

    from Hashim, and then, among them, from Abu Hasan.

    Is he not the first who prayed toward your qibla,

    and the most learned of people in the Qur’an and the traditions,

    and the one most recently in the Prophet’s company, and the one

    whom Gabriel aided in the washing and shrouding?

    وَلَيسَ في القَومِ ما فيهِ الحَسَنِ

    He has what they have—they do not doubt it;

    and none among the people has his excellence.

    What was it that turned them away from him, so you might know it?

    Behold, this is indeed an injustice among the greatest injustices.
