أَتَيتُكَ خالاً وَاِبنَ عَمٍّ وَعَمَّةٍ

أَتَيتُكَ خالاً وَاِبنَ عَمٍّ وَعَمَّةٍ

وَلَم أَكُ شَعباً لاطَهُ بِكَ مِشعَبُ

وَلَم أَكُ شَعباً لاطَهُ بِكَ مِشعَبُ

I came to you as a maternal uncle and a cousin through a paternal uncle and aunt.

I came to you as a maternal uncle and a cousin,

Nor was I a branch that some joiner had fastened to you.

And I was not a people whose lineage intertwined with yours.

فَصِل واشِجاتٍ بَينَنا مِن قَرابَةٍ

فَصِل واشِجاتٍ بَينَنا مِن قَرابَةٍ

أَلا صِلَةُ الأَرحامِ أَبقى وَأَقرَبُ

أَلا صِلَةُ الأَرحامِ أَبقى وَأَقرَبُ

So maintain the interwoven ties of kinship between us;

So renew family ties between us that kinship has severed,

Surely, kinship's bonds are more enduring and closer.

For maintaining family bonds is best and closest.

وَلا تَجعَلَنّي كَاِمرِئٍ لَيسَ بَينَهُ

وَلا تَجعَلَنّي كَاِمرِئٍ لَيسَ بَينَهُ

وَبَينَكُمُ قُربى وَلا مُتَنَسَّبُ

وَبَينَكُمُ قُربى وَلا مُتَنَسَّبُ

And do not treat me like a man between whom

And do not make me like one who has no kinship with you,

And you there is neither kinship nor a link of descent.

Nor ancestry connecting us.

أَتَحدِبُ مِن دونِ العَشيرَةِ كُلِّها

أَتَحدِبُ مِن دونِ العَشيرَةِ كُلِّها

فَأَنتَ عَلى مَولاكَ أَحنى وَأَحدَبُ

فَأَنتَ عَلى مَولاكَ أَحنى وَأَحدَبُ

Will you show care, apart from the whole clan?

I gaze longingly at the whole tribe,

For you are more tender and more caring toward your kinsman.

So you lean towards your Master, most bent over and hunched.
