أَتَطلُبُdo you seek? ثَأراًvengeance لَستُI am not مِنهُpart of it وَلاnor لَهُentitled to it
وَأَينَand where اِبنُthe son of ذَكوانَDhakwan الصَفورِيُّal-Safuri مِنin comparison with عَمرِوAmr
Do you seek vengeance in which I have neither part nor claim?
And how can Ibn Dhakwan al-Safuri compare with Amr?
كَماjust as اِتَّصَلَتshe claimed kinship بِنتُthe daughter of الحِمارِthe donkey بِأُمِّهاwith her mother
وَتَنسىand she forgets أَباهاher father إِذwhen تُساميshe rivals in eminence أوليthose possessed of الفَخرِglory
Just as the donkey’s daughter has claimed kinship with her mother,
and forgets her father when vying with those of noble renown.
أَلاtake heed إِنَّindeed خَيرَthe best of الناسِpeople بَعدَafter مُحَمَّدٍMuhammad
وَصِيُّthe legatee of النَبِيِّthe Prophet المُصطَفىthe chosen one عِندَin the sight of ذيthe possessor of الذِكرِthe Reminder
Indeed, the best of people after Muhammad
is the chosen Prophet’s legatee, in the sight of the Lord of the Reminder,
وَأَوَّلُand the first مَنwho صَلّىprayed وَصِنوُand the counterpart of نَبِيِّهِhis Prophet
وَأَوَّلُand the first مَنwho أَردىstruck down الغُواةَthe misguided لَدىat بَدرِBadr
and the first to pray, and his Prophet’s counterpart,
and the first to strike down the misguided at Badr.
فَلَوfor had رَأَتِseen الأَنصارُthe Ansar ظُلمَthe wrong done to اِبنِthe son of عَمِّكُمyour paternal uncle
لَكانواthey would surely have been لَهُfor him مِنagainst ظُلمِهِthe wrong done to him حاضِريpresent to offer النَصرِaid
For had the Ansar seen your cousin wronged,
they would surely have stood ready to defend him against that wrong.
كَفىit suffices ذاكَthat عَيباًas a disgrace أَنthat يُشيرواthey should advise بِقَتلِهِin favor of his killing
وَأَنand that يُسلِموهُthey surrender him لِلأَحابيشِto the Ahabish مِنfrom مِصرِEgypt
That is disgrace enough: that they should urge his killing,
and that they should surrender him to the Ahabish from Egypt.
