زمان تحللت سلمى المراضا
Do you remember Dhāt Nawʾ, a haunt of Sulaymā,
I pledge from my heart full of light
When Salmā settled at al-Murāḍ?
An era when my heart recovered from illness

على الأزمان تحتل الرياضا
As though their neighbors’ dwellings at Abṣar
As if their neighbor's homes with sight
Inhabited the meadows through the ages,
Conquered times beneath meadows

كما نحلت مغربلة رحاضا
Like an ivory bangle burnished by a scorching wind,
Like burning ivory halt
As a winnowing wind wore down Ruḥāḍ.
As bees swarmed waters pure

So they once were; but the days have their changes,
And it was, and time's twists
Turning Jurāḍ, among her spring camps, into dung-strewn remains.
Bleed from its squares wounds
