عَبدُ شَمسٍ أَبي فَإِن كُنتِ غَضبى

عَبدُ شَمسٍ أَبي فَإِن كُنتِ غَضبى

فَاِملَئي وَجهَكِ الجَميلَ خُدوشا

فَاِملَئي وَجهَكِ الجَميلَ خُدوشا

ʿAbd Shams is my father; so if you are angry,

A slave of an angry father, so if you are angry

Then fill your beautiful face with scratches.

Then fill your beautiful face with scars

وَأَبي هاشِمٌ هُما وَلَداني

وَأَبي هاشِمٌ هُما وَلَداني

قَومَسٌ مَنصِبي وَلَم يَكُ خيشا

قَومَسٌ مَنصِبي وَلَم يَكُ خيشا

And Hāshim is my father—both begot me.

And my father Hashim, they gave birth to me

My lineage is noble, never base.

A high rank is my profession, and I was not unprepared

وَلَنا نَشرُها وَطيبُ ثَراها

وَلَنا نَشرُها وَطيبُ ثَراها

وَبِنا سُمِّيَت قُرَيشٌ قُرَيشا

وَبِنا سُمِّيَت قُرَيشٌ قُرَيشا

And ours are her fragrance and the sweetness of her soil.

And we have its blossoming and good fragrance

And through us Quraysh was named Quraysh.

And because of us Quraysh was named Quraysh

وأفأنا السُّبي من كل حي

وأفأنا السُّبي من كل حي

وأقمنا كراكرا وكروشا

وأقمنا كراكرا وكروشا

And we took captives as spoils from every tribe,

And should I be taken captive from every neighborhood?

And we raised up great bands and clans.

And we resided as karakra and kurusha

وافتتحنا مدائنا الملك كسرى

وافتتحنا مدائنا الملك كسرى

واستبينا النبيط والاحبوشا

واستبينا النبيط والاحبوشا

And we conquered the cities of King Khosrow,

And we opened our cities which Chosroes ruled

And we took the Nabataeans and the Abyssinians captive.

And we sought Nabit and Al-Ahbush
