وَلَمّاand when رَأَيتُI saw المالَwealth مَألَفَa haven أَهلِهِits owners
وَلَمّا رَأَيتُ المالَ مَألَفَ أَهلِهِ
وَصانَand it protected ذَويthose of الأَخطارِhigh standing أَنfrom having to يَتَبَذَّلواdemean themselves
وَصانَ ذَوي الأَخطارِ أَن يَتَبَذَّلوا
And when I saw that wealth was a haven for its owners,
When I saw wealth become dear to its people
And protected those of high standing from debasing themselves,
And those in peril were protected from loss
رَجَعتُI returned إِلىto ماليmy wealth فَأَعتَبتُso I appeased بَعضَهُsome of it
رَجَعتُ إِلى مالي فَأَعتَبتُ بَعضَهُ
فَأَعتَبَنيso it appeased me إِنّيindeed, I كَذَلِكَin this way أَفعَلُact
فَأَعتَبَني إِنّي كَذَلِكَ أَفعَلُ
I returned to my wealth and appeased a portion of it;
I returned to my wealth and blamed some of it
It then appeased me; indeed, this is how I act.
