For you, in your remembrance of Umm Wahb,

are like the yearning cry of an old camel following the low hills.

She remembered the landmarks and moaned with longing,

and found the watering places and the surrounding land unfamiliar.

So she spent the night sleepless, watching lightning

that glittered in a piled-up cloud—where did its rain fall?

At al-Bazwāʾ, or to the south of Niṣʿ,

or had its rain-laden clouds settled over al-ʿAnāb?
