عدوّك في النفاق عدوّ سوء

فخفه فقد أبان لك الخداعا

Your hypocritical enemy is an evil foe.

Your enemy who feigns friendship is truly vile,

So fear him, for he has made his deceit plain to you.

So beware him for he has shown you his deception.

يحبّب نفسه ويريك ودّا

يحبّب نفسه ويريك ودّا

ويضمر ضدّ ذلك ما استطاعا

ويضمر ضدّ ذلك ما استطاعا

He endears himself to you and shows you affection,

He makes himself amiable and shows you affection,

and secretly harbors its opposite as much as he can.

Yet in his heart he plots against you however he can.

فإن دقّت مكائده تحصّى

فإن دقّت مكائده تحصّى

عليك اللفظ واطلب الشناعا

عليك اللفظ واطلب الشناعا

If his schemes are subtle, he counts

Though his schemes be subtle, take heed,

your words against you and seeks to disgrace you.

Judge by his words yet seek out his real intent.

ومن كشف العداوة والتشاني

ومن كشف العداوة والتشاني

مددت لحربه ذرعا وباعا

مددت لحربه ذرعا وباعا

And whoever laid bare enmity and mutual hatred,

For when enmity and hatred are revealed

I extended an arm's reach and an armspan to fight him.

You extend the means for battle and increase your defenses.

ولم أحذر مكائده لما قد

ولم أحذر مكائده لما قد

عرفت وكان قد كشف القناعا

عرفت وكان قد كشف القناعا

Nor did I fear his schemes, because of what I had

And had I not been wary of his schemes

learned—and he had already lifted the mask.

When his true nature was exposed and his mask lifted,

ومن عاداك لم تذنب إليه

ومن عاداك لم تذنب إليه

فقد أبدى عن الحسد الطباعا

فقد أبدى عن الحسد الطباعا

And whoever is hostile to you, though you have done him no wrong,

For he who shows you enmity though you've caused no wrong

has thus revealed his character through envy.

Has but revealed his innate envy and malice.
