Why do I see you standing,

I have not seen you standing

forever finding your sustenance slow to arrive?

Ever delaying your sustenance

لا تستفيق من الشكاية

لا تستفيق من الشكاية

في محلّك أو مدقّك

في محلّك أو مدقّك

You never rouse yourself from complaining,

Do not awaken complaining

whether in dearth or destitution.

In your abode or your corner

فإذا أردت سكون نف

فإذا أردت سكون نف

سك عند ذاك وملك رقّك

سك عند ذاك وملك رقّك

So if you desire repose for your—

For if you want tranquility of soul

soul then, and mastery over your bondage,

Be silent then and control your saliva

فانظر إلى ما تستحقّ فإن

فانظر إلى ما تستحقّ فإن

رزقك فوق حقك

رزقك فوق حقك

look at what you deserve, for indeed

Consider what you deserve

your sustenance exceeds your due.

For your sustenance is beyond your right
