ذهب الذين عيهم وجدي

ذهب الذين عيهم وجدي

وبقيت بعد فراقهم وحدي

وبقيت بعد فراقهم وحدي

Those for whom I grieve have gone.

Those I loved have gone and left me,

And I remained alone after parting from them.

Alone I stay when they're no longer here.

سلفٌ مضوا وبقيت بعدهم

سلفٌ مضوا وبقيت بعدهم

وكذاك يذهب من أتى بعدي

وكذاك يذهب من أتى بعدي

Predecessors passed on, and I remained after them.

A generation passed, and I remained,

And likewise, whoever comes after me will depart.

Just so the next will pass when I disappear.

تركوا الذي جمعوا لبعدهم

تركوا الذي جمعوا لبعدهم

وكذاك أتركه لمن بعدي

وكذاك أتركه لمن بعدي

They left what they had gathered for those after them.

They left what they had gathered for their time.

And likewise, I shall leave it to those after me.

And so will I leave what I gather here.
