هذا المورث قال لي

هذا المورث قال لي

قولا بغير لسانه

قولا بغير لسانه

This bequeather said to me

This heir told me,

words not spoken with his tongue,

In words without tongue,

لكن بما شاهدته

لكن بما شاهدته

من فعله في شانه

من فعله في شانه

but through what I witnessed

Yet by what I saw

of his actions in his affairs:

Of his deeds for his people-

متعظّم برجاله

متعظّم برجاله

العزّ من سلطانه

العزّ من سلطانه

puffed up by his men,

Arrogant to his men,

his might derived from his authority.

Power from his rule-

يا مفردا كسب الحطام

يا مفردا كسب الحطام

بسيفه وسنانه

بسيفه وسنانه

O one bent solely on acquiring worldly chaff

O you who reaped ruin

with his sword and spearpoint,

With sword and teeth

لا تبق ما أعطاكه

لا تبق ما أعطاكه

مولاك من إحسانه

مولاك من إحسانه

do not keep what you were given

Do not keep what

by your Lord, out of His generosity.

Your Master gave of favor

كل ما كسبت وجزّه

كل ما كسبت وجزّه

بالعدل في ألوانه

بالعدل في ألوانه

Eat what you have earned, and shear it away

All you took and ate

justly, in its various forms,

With justice in its forms

بالناب قبل تمكّني

بالناب قبل تمكّني

في البيت من أركانه

في البيت من أركانه

with the fang, before I gain a foothold

With fangs before my

in the house, through its foundations,

Settling in the house's pillars

وبنى بنى في ارضه

وبنى بنى في ارضه

طمعا وفي جدرانه

طمعا وفي جدرانه

and in buildings he built upon his land

And built, built on his land

out of greed, and in its walls,

With greed and in his walls

وتحقّقي بك بعد كو

وتحقّقي بك بعد كو

ن الموت في حدثانه

ن الموت في حدثانه

and before I become a reality in you, after the coming

And realize, you after being

of death amid its vicissitudes.

That death is at his ankles

كم ميّت حالفتهُ

كم ميّت حالفتهُ

وبخست في أكفانه

وبخست في أكفانه

Many a dead man have I allied with,

How many dead befriended you

and shortchanged him in his shrouds,

And cheated in their shrouds

ودفنته دفنَ الكلا

ودفنته دفنَ الكلا

ب بذله وهوانه

ب بذله وهوانه

and buried him as dogs are buried,

And buried in dogs' graves

in his abasement and humiliation;

Giving him up in disgrace and humiliation

وأكلت ما ذحرت يدا

وأكلت ما ذحرت يدا

ه لجهله بزمانه

ه لجهله بزمانه

and consumed what his two hands had hoarded,

And ate what his hands sacrificed

because of his ignorance of his times,

In ignorance of his time

لخلافه لنبيّه

لخلافه لنبيّه

والميل عن قرآنه

والميل عن قرآنه

his opposition to his prophet,

Opposing his prophet

and his turning away from his Qur’an,

And turning from his Koran

وقبوله لضلاله

وقبوله لضلاله

بالشك من شيطانه

بالشك من شيطانه

and his acceptance of his own misguidance

And accepting his heresy

through doubt from his devil.
