so it was said, "A spell has spread through his body."

في قلبه وانثنت إلى كبده

The physicians said, "An ailment has settled

The doctors said an illness had settled

in his heart and turned toward his liver."

Many a draught he was given, yet none helped;

How many a potion they made him drink but it was no use

rather, drinking the medicine increased his grief.

فهو صريع لما به دنف

So he lies stricken by his affliction, gravely ill;

He is stricken by what ails him

if he does not die tomorrow, then the day after.
