أدبّI creep دبيبَthe creeping of السخلthe lamb or kid ساعةat the moment يولدit is born
The vicissitudes of the nights have made me as you see.
The turns of the nights have made me as you see,
I creep as a lamb creeps the moment it is born.
I discipline the walk of the foolish at birth,
وألتمسand I feel for الجدرانthe walls بالكفّwith the palm والعصاand the staff
وأحبوand I crawl كماas يحبوcrawls الوليدthe infant المبلدslow-witted
And I feel for the walls with my palm and staff.
And I feel the walls with my palm and staff,
And I crawl as a slow-witted infant crawls.
And I love as the infant loves the homeland.

I perform my prescribed duties seated, with hardship
I perform my duties sitting with difficulty,
Upon me; and the house's door is barred to goodness.
Woe is me, and the door of the house is closed to good.

And whoever lives four years beyond eighty
Whoever lives after eighty four more,
Longs for death's arrival—and death is more generous.
Wishes for the roses of death, and death is more generous.

So let no mortal be beguiled by a life of youth.
So let no person blame living the life of youth,
For no mortal lives forever as the days go by.
For upon the days is no creation that lasts.
