تغصّصُ الحرّ بأنفاسه
The stages of time, with its misfortunes,
The turns of fate with its misfortunes,
Make the noble man choke on his own breaths.
The heat's intensity with its breaths,
لمdid not يبقremain منfrom مكروههits afflictions غصّةٌa choking pang
لم يبق من مكروهه غصّةٌ
إلاexcept that سقانيهاit made me drink it ومنand from باسهits harshness
إلا سقانيها ومن باسه
No choking pang from its afflictions remained
No bitterness was left from its troubles,
That it did not make me drink—nor any from its harshness.
Except it quenched me with it and with its affliction.
