The sky withheld its rain, so some people said,
The people held back the sky and said,
Having despaired and grown tumultuous in their speech:
Desperate and confused in their talk,

Blanketing the plains and the uplands.'
To blanket the plains and plateaus alike."

The clouds parted with a crash of thunder,
The sky's waterskin-spouts in a sudden cloudburst,

They clamored in prayer, but were not answered;
Came true in a wondrous, wondrous way.
And ill fortune brought a wonder beyond all wonders.
