In his poverty over a man of means,

وخاملٌ ذو نسب خامل

وخاملٌ ذو نسب خامل

عاب شريفا حسن المنظر

عاب شريفا حسن المنظر

And an obscure man of obscure lineage

And is heedless, though of noble lineage,

Who disparaged a nobleman of handsome appearance.

Censuring a noble man of handsome appearance.

بينهما أخيب من فعله

بينهما أخيب من فعله

مديرة زفّت إلى مدبر

Between the two, most hapless is whoever brought this about:

Between the two, more disappointing in his conduct

A woman who manages affairs was led as a bride to an ill-fated man.

Is she who is led in marriage to one she dislikes.
