Take heed, O servant who grievously wrongs himself:
O you, slave who does himself wrong!
You have acted ignorantly, and hopes and delights have deceived you.
Desires and comforts have made you ignorant and proud.

You have blackened the face of the pages every night
You blacken the pages night and day,
and day, yet fears have not checked your desire.
Yet your fears do not make you cut your passions.

You will laugh or weep tears of remorse
You will laugh or weep tears of regret
when the records are laid open upon your return.
When on Judgement Day the records are spread open.
