Someone spoke to me, with flattery in his words
and impatience in his pressing me, of all people;

as a favor on his part, he asked me to supply at once
verse for him, with its composition well ordered.

So I said, my circumstances driving me to excuses
framed in words, with neither coarseness nor folly:
لاdo not تلزمّنيburden me ثلاثاthree things لاnot يقومcan cope لهاwith them

Do not burden me with three things beyond
my patience and my means; I have other concerns besides.

Suppose I complied with what you sought:
then the verse, the copying, and the paper all fall to me.
