رأتshe saw بارقاa flash of lightning نحوtoward العقيقal-ʿAqīq فحنّتso she yearned
وذكّرهاand reminded her الشوقlonging القديمold فأنتso she moaned
She saw lightning toward al-ʿAqīq and yearned.
She saw a lightning towards Al-Aqeeq so she yearned
And old longing stirred her memory, so she moaned.
And the old longing reminded her so she lamented
تمنّتshe wished for رققgentle comforts العيشlife فيon هضباتهits uplands
وليسand there is not لهاfor her منof عيشهاher life ماwhat تمنّتshe wished for
She wished for life's gentle comforts on its uplands.
She wished for the soft life in its plateaus
Yet in her life she has none of what she wished for.
Yet she does not have from her life what she wished
وحنّتand she yearned إلىfor ماءwater العقيقal-ʿAqīq وأهلهand its people
حنينthe yearning التيshe who عنaway from طيّبsweetness العيشlife زلتslipped
And she yearned for the water of al-ʿAqīq and its people,
She yearned for the water of Al-Aqeeq and its people
With the yearning of a woman who has slipped from life's sweetness.
The yearning of one who slipped from the good life
علىnotwithstanding أنّهاthat they are الأيامthe days إنif هيَthey عقدتthey bound
نعيماbliss علىupon قومa people أعادتthey returned فحلّتand unbound it
Yet such are the days: if they bind
Though time, if it ties
Bliss upon a people, they return and unbind it.
Joy to a people, it would repeat and dissolve
