By the specter of addition, or with your beloved gone far away:

The specter of loss or a loved one's departure draws near,

ما دمت حيّا سليما فاسل عن جدة

ما كل يوم تقيد المال والفرحا

ما كل يوم تقيد المال والفرحا

As long as you remain alive and sound, forget about wealth;

As long as you live healthy and sound, cease your seriousness -

Not every day do you hold fast to wealth and joy.

Not every day calls for hoarding money and joy -

يوم أفادك إحسانا صلحت به

يوم أفادك إحسانا صلحت به

هو الذي نال إحسانا لما صلحا

هو الذي نال إحسانا لما صلحا

A day that brought you kindness, through which you fared well,

The day someone does you a good turn and you make peace with him,

Is the one that received kindness when it became good.

He is the one who gained goodwill when you made peace.
