كما اكتاب الباكون صبحة مأتم

My heart, in his keeping, has become counted as one alone.

My heart in its agony has become an oddity

As those who weep grew sorrowful on the morning of a funeral gathering.

Like mourners at dawn with tear-streaked faces

وما شاقني إلا غير ساق

وما شاقني إلا غير ساق

ولا واقع إلا معنّى بسالم

ولا واقع إلا معنّى بسالم

And nothing stirred my longing except someone other than a cupbearer.

Nothing has pained me except fate

Nor is there anyone fallen except one tormented by Sālim.

And no mishap except with acceptance and peace

تساوى جميع الناس في الهم والأسى

تساوى جميع الناس في الهم والأسى

وأكثرهم فيه الكثير الدراهم

وأكثرهم فيه الكثير الدراهم

All people are equal in worry and sorrow,

All people are equal in worries and grief

and the one among them with the most of it is the one with many dirhams.

And most among them have plenty of money
