المرءman يطلبseeks والمنيّةand death تطلبُهseeks him
المرء يطلب والمنيّة تطلبُه
ويدُand the hand الزمانtime تديرهturns him about وتقلبُهand turns him over
ويدُ الزمان تديره وتقلبُه
Man seeks, and death seeks him.
Man seeks while death seeks him
And the hand of time turns him about and turns him over.
And time's hand turns him round and round
ليسis not الحريضthe ailing man بزائدincreasing فيin رزقهhis sustenance
ليس الحريض بزائد في رزقه
اللهGod يجلبهbrings it لهto him ويسبّبهand brings it about
الله يجلبه له ويسبّبه
The ailing man does not increase his sustenance.
Greed avails him naught of providence
God brings it to him and brings it about.
God brings it to him and facilitates it
