Is not a blind astrologer among the greatest calamities,

and a blind reckoner watching the stars?

And how can a blind man calculate a star’s position,

and know when a star appears in the sky?

And what does he know of ‘takhb’ and declination—woe to him!

And within him is a wearisome preoccupation with his eyes.

But such is the world: it changes its people,

so a bleary-eyed man is an eye doctor, and a bull a physician.
