إنّكم كنتم صغارا فزوروا
قبلbefore أنthat تهجرواyou are shunned وأنتمand you are كبارgrown
قبل أن تهجروا وأنتم كبار
Indeed, you were young, so visit,
Though once you were small, come back again
before you are shunned when you are grown.
Before, grown, you leave for good
اسمحواbe generous واختمواand set your seal وفيand in الطينthe clay ماءwater
اسمحوا واختموا وفي الطين ماء
قبلbefore أنthat تحملburden المخاليthe feedbags العذارthe cheek
قبل أن تحمل المخالي العذار
Be generous and set your seal while the clay still holds water,
Forgive, make peace, for water remains in clay
before the feedbags burden the cheek.
Before bitterness takes you where you should not go
إنindeed نبتgrowth اللحىthe beards وبالa bane علىfor المردthe beardless youths
إن نبت اللحى وبال على المرد
كماjust as يكرهhate الكسادthe slump in trade التجارthe merchants
كما يكره الكساد التجار
Indeed, the growth of beards is a bane to beardless youths,
When the beard grows, and gray weighs down the head
just as merchants hate a slump in trade.
Like merchants come to hate hard times, you'll regret what you fled
